How to choose a credit card?
Wednesday, October 28, 2009 2:04 pmIn today’s times, people tend to spend more due to high-profile lifestyle and increasing needs. Nevertheless, investments and savings can’t be sidelined in the wake of spending. The question is how to get smart with expenses and spend prudently. Different individuals have different strategies to spend and save. If we are talking about expenses, credit cards and their usage come in picture quite evidently. So, as an investor you need to know what kind of credit cards you should use in order to spend rationally and maintain good healthy financial life. Besides the fees and the interest that you will be billed on a credit card, consider your standard of living and past payment record while picking a credit card.
If you are one of those who choose to pay only the minimum due every month, then interest rate is a very essential feature that you must take care of as you sign up for a card. Some cards offer a fixed rate, while some offer variable rates. Majority of the cards review a variable rate, which can be modified periodically.
You need to know about the minimum payment you are supposed to make. Also, the maximum you can borrow without an over-the-limit charge.
You should be aware if there is any annual fee or any kind of hidden fee, late payment fees, and finance charges on cash advances.
Be aware of the circumstances when the credit provider can change terms of the agreement.
Call up customer service and learn how the company calculates the finance charges.
Take advantage of the low introductory interest rate, if offered and be aware when it’s going to increase.
Besides spending, you should look for rewards on your card, so sign up for cards that offer good reward points or bonuses on purchases. If you pay in full, interest rate should not be an issue for you. However, you should look for other additional benefits.
So, now you know how to grab the best card in town!
