Is It Safe to Invest in an IPO


It is very important for an investor to analyze the business of the company who is offering an IPO and should list all the risk factors which the company’s business will face while entering into the market.

An IPO is also called as Initial Public Offering. An IPO is the basic term which is being used in the stock market which by the companies who wants to first issue the stock of their company to general public. This IPO helps the company to collect the funds in which in turn they provide the share to general public in their company. Generally these IPO’s are offered by newly formed companies as they are new to markets and need funds in order to be competitive in stock market.

It is only during the time of an IPO when the business has particular value fixed for it. An IPO has to cross many hurdles in order to establish itself in market and give assurance to its investors for the long term stability in the market. The value of an IPO is identified by accountants and economists by calculating the assets and the prospects of earning profit by the company in coming future. It is very difficult to track the business of a new company that weather the company’s business will rise in coming future or fall in future so it becomes difficult to say that whether it is safe to invest in an IPO or not. Though there are many signs in the stock market which tell that an IPO is safe or not but still it is difficult to take decisions regarding your investment in an IPO. Your decision of an investment in an IPO can be risky also or it can be fruitful also making the investor earn huge profits.

This exit plan will help him in earning good profits from the stock. The basic things which are accountable for an IPO and tell that whether it is safe to invest in an IPO is that, if the IPO is of some big company it becomes easy for an investor to choose. If the investor is new, generally he is not advised to invest his hard earned money to be put on risk because IPO’s are generally offered by new companies and it becomes difficult for new investors to analyze the growth of those companies in future and they might land up in losing their money. Some investors think that an IPO after getting listed on stock market gains value and its investors will be able to earn high profits.

These kinds of investors have wrong notions about IPO’s sometimes the values of the stocks fall after getting listed due to which investors have to undergo huge losses. An IPO involves high levels of research and uncertainty due to which they lose importance when it comes to investment. Profits and future growth of IPO’s is very difficult to measure. An investment in IPO’s depend on certain assumptions, if those assumptions don’t come true an investor is likely to lose a lot of money in stock market leading him into strong monetary crisis.

In order to conclude this article, we can say that it is not safe to invest in IPO’s until and unless an investor is experienced and is fully confident regarding his investment in that IPO. It is rather safe to invest in stocks rather than investing in IPO’s as they don’t provide their investors with any past history and trends. So it becomes difficult for an investor to study the past trend and plan his investment accordingly. An investor can choose a big company if he is willing to invest in IPO but should not take risk with his money for investing in an IPO of a small unknown company.
