Midday Note: Markets recovered after a decline
Tuesday, September 8, 2009 2:35 pmThe NSE Nifty traded up though it relinquished some earnings at 14:19 hours IST. Reliance Industries and SBI rushed nearly 4% each. Nalco, Reliance Infrastructure, Sterlite Industries, Hindalco and SAIL were 4.5-5.5% high. Jindal Steel, TCS, SAIL and Hero Honda earned more than 2% each. DLF, BHEL, L&T, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank and PNB were 1-1.5% high.
Nevertheless, selling was witnessed in auto (four-wheeler), FMCG and oil marketing companies’ shares. Tata Power, ONGC, Axis Bank, Infosys, Reliance Communication, GAIL, Sun Pharmacy, Siemens and Ambuja Cements also fell.
The BSE Sensex was 112 points high and the NSE Nifty was 23 points high. The wider indices earned 0.4-0.7%. European markets were just 0.5% high. Gold was 3% high and Silver was 3% high. Lead shot 5% high; Nickel, Zinc, Aluminum & Copper and Nymex Crude also surged.
