Opening Note: Market may open on the lower side, Satyam effect to persist
Friday, January 9, 2009 9:35 amThe Indian market is yet again expected to get a low opening. The Stayam fiasco will again hog the limelight and the movement of the FIIs will be the one to be watched. Apart from this, global cues are not so promising, the US market ended flat and the Asian markets have made a slow and mixed opening.
On the domestic side, the one factor that will be of some importance is from the macro level the announcement of the inflation figures, though it is receding for the last few weeks and is expected to continue the same but it will certainly give some comfort after the Wednesday debacle of the market.
The US market recovered from early losses after Citigroup Inc has agreed to support legislation focussed at stemming home loan foreclosures.
Nasdaq closed higher by 17.95 points or 1.12% to 1,617.01, S&P 500 gained 3.08 points or 0.34% to 909.73.On the other hand, Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 27.24 points or 0.31% to 8,742.46.
Asian markets have made a watchful opening with Nikkei 225 trading at 8,792.72 down by 83.70 points or 0.94%, Taiwan Weighted at 4,509.20 down by 26.59 points or 0.59%.On the other hand Shanghai Composite at 1,886.68 up by 8.50 points or 0.45%, and the Hang Seng was trading up by 20.55 points or 0.14% to 14,436.46.
