Closing Note: Market ended low
Monday, July 13, 2009 4:00 pmThe NSE dropped 27 points to end at 3,976. The BSE was low 104 points to close at 13,400 after reaching an up of 13,462 and a down of 13,220. The index had hit at 13,406 as opposed to the earlier end of 13,504.
The Nikkei index fell 1.3%, Australia’s S&P/ASX closed flat at 3,763 and Asian markets closed in mixed. Hang Seng index earned 0.4%.
Stocks traded high elsewhere in the Europe. The DAX index was high 1.2%. The FTSE index was high 0.7%. CAC 40 index was high 1%.
Among the BSE Sector indices, BSE Consumer Durables index was the lead loser falling 5.3%, followed by the BSE Metal index, BSE Realty index and BSE Auto index.
Even the wider indices closed low, the Sensex Mid-Cap index dropped 2.6% and the BSE Small-Cap index dropped 3.2%.
The chief earners were Sterlite, ICICI Bank, TCS, Sun Pharmacy, Infosys, Grasim and Wipro in the Sensex. The Sensex IT index was the chief earner, which was high with 1.7% and Sensex Bankex index closed up by 0.3%.
The chief losers outside the frontline indices comprised Century Tex, Jai Corp, Renuka Sugar, Hind Copper, Balrampur Chini and Biocon.
Ashok Leyland, Bank of India, Tulip Tele, HCL Tech and REI Agro were among the big earners in the broader market.
Maruti, DLF, Hindalco, Reliance Infra, JP Associates, Tata Steel and Hero Honda were among the main losers.
