Midday Note: Sensex swings around 9300 mark with dull market
Monday, January 19, 2009 11:30 amThe markets still sees an uneven session, as both indices looks dull in trade. Metal, select telecom stocks as well as L&T, Reliance Petroleum, Reliance Industries, ITC, ACC and Ambuja Cements are seeing buying interest.
Nevertheless, selling exists in technology, realty stocks, and auto as well as in ICICI Bank, NTPC, SBI, HDFC and Grasim.
The Sensex descended 24 points while the Nifty went up by just 0.30 points, at 11:33 hours IST. BSE increased by 0.5% and Small cap increased by 0.9%.
Market pulse is softly in the green; about 1473 shares have gone up while 1301 shares dropped. Approximately, 162 shares are unaffected.
Jaiprakash Hydro, Simplex Infra, Essar Shipping, Godfrey Phillip and 3M India went up 5.4-6.4% while Jagran Prakashan, Geodesic, Gujarat NRE Coke, Maytas Infra and Bajaj Finserv lost 5-7.5% among the midcap stocks.
Entertainment Network Ind, Nucleus Software, ESS DEE, Balkrishna Inds and PNB Gilts gained 10-18.5% while Sulzer, Zenotech Labs, KPR Mill, Mount Everest and ABG Shipyard fell 5.5-13% in the small cap space.
The benchmark indices see instability. Technology, realty stocks and auto as well as ICICI Bank, NTPC and HDFC faces stress. Nonetheless, buying is seen in metal, telecom stocks as well as in ONGC, L&T, SBI, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Tata Power and ACC.
Real Estate stocks are on the high, Realty Index declined 3%. Unitech low by 8% and DLF dropped by 3%.
The benchmark indices have seen flat opening and at once began trading unevenly. Unitech, HCL Technologies, Sterlite, ACC, L&T, Jaiprakash Associates, Siemens, Hindalco, Reliance Communications, Ranbaxy Labs, SBI, Sun Pharma, ITC, HDFC Bank and BHEL are gainers in initial trade.
Jaiprakash Associates rose 5% after its Q3 FY09 numbers. Its net sales was high Rs.1380.63 crore against Rs.942.88 crore and net profit increased to Rs.165.51 crore against Rs.155.8 crore.
With Q3 results were below expectation and its margins also dropped so Gujarat NRE Coke lost over 5%.
Asian markets trades higher. Shanghai went up by 2.3% and Kospi gained 1%. Straits Times gained 0.5%. Hang Seng, Nikkei and Taiwan are stable.
US markets closed slightly on the higher side. Dow Jones closed with 0.8% at 8281 and was low 3.7% for the week. NASDAQ closed up 1.1% at 1530 and was low 2.7% for the week. S&P 500 closed at 0.7% at 850 and was low 4.5% for the week.
