Closing Note: Market ends low
Monday, June 22, 2009 4:00 pmThe Nifty fell 78 points to end at 4,235. The Sensex fell 195 points to close at 14,326 after reaching an up of 14,668 and a down of 14,269. The index had hit at 14,591 opposed to the earlier end of 14,522.
Asian markets closed on the higher side, Australia’s S&P/ASX closed up 0.5% and the Hang Seng index ascended 0.8%. Nikkei index profited by 0.4%.
Stocks traded lower elsewhere in the Europe. The FTSE index was low 1%. CAC 40 index declined 1.2%. The DAX index was low 1.1%.
BSE Oil & Gas index was the chief loser declining 4% among the BSE Sector indices followed by the BSE Metal index low 3%, BSE Realty index low 2.7%, BSE Power index low 3% and BSE Consumer Durables index low 2.2%.
The chief losers were Reliance Industries, Hindalco, M&M, NTPC, Tata Power, Grasim, Reliance Infra and Ranbaxy in the BSE.
ITC, L&T, Maruti, ICICI Bank and HDFC were on an upswing.
The main losers were Indian Hotels, Bajaj Holdings, MTNL, Financial Tech and Jai Corp outside the frontline indices.
BEML, Piramal Healthcare, IFCI, EKC, Spice Tele, Petronet LNG and MRPL were among the main earners in the broader market.
