Midday Note: Markets get unstable
Friday, August 28, 2009 11:50 amThe NSE Nifty traded with slight gains and floated around significant level of 4700 at 10:38 hours IST. Nevertheless, the markets were exceedingly unstable in trade. L&T, SAIL, ICICI Bank, DLF, Unitech, SBI, HUL, Siemens, HDFC, Sterlite, Idea, Reliance Infrastructure, Maruti, Cipla, Hero Honda and Reliance Power were the other earners. Bharti Airtel carried on trading up with more than 2% earning due to the possible contract with South Africa’s MTN. It was high almost 3% on Thursday. Oil & gas exploration’s shares also saw buying interest with crude ascending 1.5% and trading over USD 72.5 a barrel on the Nymex.
Nevertheless, selling was witnessed in technology stocks. Tata Power, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, NTPC, BHEL, ITC, Sun Pharmacy, Nalco and Axis Bank were the other losers.
The BSE Sensex increased 42 points and the NSE Nifty rushed 9 points high. The wider indices outperformed the benchmark indices. Nearly 815 shares rushed while 345 shares fell on the Nifty.
JM Financial, P & G, OnMobile Global, Thermax and CESC earned 5-9% while GMDC, STC India, HOEC, Deccan Chronicle and Motherson Sumi dipped 2-4%.
Dhanalakshmi Bank, Amtek India, Bhagyanagar Industries, Dalmia Cement and Jagatjit Industries were 8-13% high. Nevertheless, JMD Telefilms, Ruch Infra, Tamil Newsprint, Suven Life Sciences and Timken were 4.5-7% low.
