The World Bank on Monday revealed that apart from Satyam Computer Services Ltd, it had barred Wipro Ltd and Mega soft Ltd from doing any work for it for “providing improper benefits to bank staff” in the first instance, and “participating in a joint venture with bank staff while also conducting business with the bank” in the second.

Wipro presently trades at Rs 231, down by 19.65 points or 7.84% from its previous closing of Rs 250.65 on the BSE.

The global IT services business of Wipro, Wipro Techno announced that in connection with revised disclosure policies, Wipro and the World Bank are unveiling that in June 2007 the World Bank determined Wipro to be unable to contest direct contracts from the World Bank for the period 2007-2011.

Wipro announced that it would give details of its deal with Origin Energy of Australia at a press conference in Bangalore later today.
